How Often Do I Need to Wear My Invisalign Aligners?

Invisalign Aligners

There are several treatment options to take into consideration when you want to enhance your smile and correct your bite. Look at the Invisalign cost compared to the cost of other treatments when making your decision. Consider the treatment plan length, know when to wear aligners, and understand the benefits of Invisalign.

Length of Invisalign Treatment Plan

The total length of an Invisalign treatment plan varies from person to person. Your orthodontist will make a recommendation based on your existing tooth alignment. Most treatment plans will last anywhere from six to twelve months. It is possible to have a longer treatment plan.

Once the treatment plan is complete and teeth are straight, patients will still need to wear a retainer. The retainer will prevent straightened teeth from shifting after the treatment plan has ended.

Your orthodontist will make a recommendation for which type of retainer is best. The different types of retainers have different lengths of use.

When to Wear Invisalign Aligners

When you begin your treatment plan, your orthodontist will explain when to wear your aligners and when to take them out. You must follow your orthodontist’s recommendations in order for the treatment to work properly.

Aligners should be worn for a  each day. You should only take your Invisalign aligners out when you eat and when you clean them. Always wear your aligners at night and between meals.

As the aligners begin to work, your teeth will shift. Aligners are meant to adjust your smile gradually and gently. You will switch to new aligners every one to two weeks as set by your treatment plan.

If you do not wear your aligners for the minimum amount of time, your overall treatment time could lengthen. It is harder to align your teeth and achieve the smile you want. Try your best to faithfully wear your aligners to stay up to date on your treatment plan.

After you have completed the designated treatment, you will wear a retainer. There are two main types of retainers, fixed and removable.

Fixed retainers are placed on the back of your front six teeth. They remain in place all of the time, regardless of whether or not you’re eating.

Removable retainers are similar to the aligners. You will be able to decrease the length of time you wear removable retainers the further out you are from your treatment plan.

Only decrease the amount of time you wear the removable retainers, as recommended by your orthodontist. Eventually, you will only have to wear the retainer at night, or as few as three to five nights each week.

Benefits of Invisalign

A treatment plan that includes Invisalign aligners has many benefits. One of the biggest benefits of choosing Invisalign is the clear aligners.  Clear aligners are virtually invisible, so most people won’t even notice you’re wearing them.

Another benefit of Invisalign is how many dental conditions the aligners can correct. Invisalign can help correct the following conditions:

  • Crossbite
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crowded teeth
  • Gap teeth
  • Open bite

While in use, Invisalign will also help straighten your teeth.

Unlike other treatment plans, with Invisalign, you will not have to change what you eat. Simply remove the aligners when you eat. You will be able to continue to enjoy popcorn, gum, hard candy, chewy foods, and more.

Keeping your teeth clean during treatment can be easier to do with Invisalign. Continue to brush and floss your teeth the way you did before your treatment plan started. Clean your aligners as directed by your orthodontist.

Are Invisalign Costs Worth It

It might surprise you how great Invisalign is when you consider both the benefits and the cost. The Invisalign cost is comparable to other treatment plans but has more benefits.

When you’re ready to start a treatment plan, be sure to work with a certified Invisalign orthodontist. Only trained orthodontists are able to provide genuine Invisalign aligners.
